As mentioned in the previous newsletter, SAVA Conservation has been fortunate to re-
ceive a three year grant from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. In July
of this year, a team from Helmsley was in Madagascar and came to the SAVA to visit a few
of our project activities. The Helmsley team of Renu Saini (Program Officer - Madagascar),
Robert Cook (Program Director), and Adam Sanders (Grant Management) arrived by plane,
and after a quick visit to our Sambava office, were whisked away to Andapa, where most of
the project activities are centered. Despite typical rainy July weather, the visit was a suc-
cess, and it was a pleasure to meet and get to know the supportive Helmsley team. After
the site visit, Erik, Charlie and Lanto all attended a workshop in Tana, sponsored by
Helmsley, which had the objective of promoting communication among the various
Helmsley grantees from around Madagascar.
